For the Men... The boutonniere, or "buttonhole" flower, has evolved far beyond a simple carnation tucked into the lapel buttonhole. Use flowers that coordinate with the bridal bouquet and general style of your wedding, such as a mini-orchid, gerbera daisy, full-size or baby rose, or lisianthus. Even an interesting leaf accented with the tiny blooms of baby's breath or solidago can serve. Add a small twist of ribbon or a pearl accent to create interest.
Boutonnieres are usually given to groomsmen, fathers, grandfathers, soloist (if male), sometimes to the minister or officiant, and of course, to the groom. Often the groom's boutonniere will be slightly more elaborate than those of his groomsmen.
